Dignity of Obsolescence

Dignity of Obsolescence

The project is a installation displayed at the 2015 UABB HK, a speculative narrative of an archaeological artifact found in Hong Kong in 2050:

Recycled Copper is the new gold rush:

In 2050, flood of obsolete electronics produced during 1980s are being rediscovered. The city is running into a copper rush, the landfill became the new mine. Once sitting silently behind the walls, the switches, the aluminium cases, the pixels that we consume, it is now the hottest material designers and architects.

The 2000s is the new nostalgia, with the popularised digital modelling and fabrication, coppers are endlessly reshaped and reformed.

Found in a basement of an architecture school, these sculptures looks strangely familiar, perhaps it is the facade of my grandpa’s flat.
